A variety show belonged to us (May 18, 2009)

Tomorrow, it is the first time that we present our show to our tutors who have helped us improve our English and cared us for several months. After about a week’s practice, we are able to perform our show completely. Though it is a rehearsal, we would like to give them a surprise, so we practice our show one more time during the class.
The first part of show is drama and three stories are involved. Firstly, our memory dated back five months ago. We were leaving the familiar place where we have lived for almost twenty years. We had to say goodbye to our parents who we met almost every day. Unsaid melancholy swirled in our heart. Though our parents encouraged us to go and exhorted us not to miss home, you knew and I could feel that how much they hoped the airplane could delay for several hours. Since we chose this way, the moment to say goodbye was to come. Farewell, father and mother, we will look after us well and you ought to have a rest and enjoy your own life now. Farewell.
Secondly, it is turn for the life in Eton Hall which is interesting and unforgotten. Maybe we prefer the theme of humor, so we intended to present the food, mosquito, computer games and shopping during the life in Eton Hall as four actions. However, there was something wrong with the first action. If we say that the food is disgusting, we actually exaggerate the fact and it may hurt the feeling of our kind uncle. In fact, in our heart, we all appreciate it that uncle gets up early every day to prepare breakfast for us, and we all appreciate that uncle cook enough food for us, so many big children. So we were determined to express our real emotion and say thank you to uncle. Finally, it is a month later, and we will leave Eton Hall, the first home since we arrived in Singapore. We feel a little regretful that we waste too much time and we could have lived more interesting life; however, we felt comfortable because here is the feeling of family and here is a period of our valuable memory.
The second part of our show is a poem with a solo dance. Tina(Liu Liang) read the poem written by Veronica(Zhang Qiong) and Vero is the dancer as well. The poem is not long, but full of sentiment and stories. Listening to Tina, my recall some buried memories, and the scene of celebrating friend’s birthday etc. emerged in my mind. In addition, the gentle speed of reading and the feeling she put into the poem quite impressed me. Not only the reading, but also the dance was very excellent. Few classmates knew Vero was good at dancing till she did. When music began, she looked calm and leisurely, and I felt that she was enjoying dancing. Her arms are lithe and when they moved up and down, it was like floating of water. They both show their talents which were known to few people. And they really shocked me.
The last party is our chorus and the lyrics are rewritten by Vero. The background music is “Do, Re, Mi” and its lyrics are taken the place by “One, Two, Three”. We try to connect our life with the numbers and sing to audience with our lingering appreciation. Even though we are to leave for NUS in a month, we try to sing happily and leave the happiness to Eton Hall where we ever gather a family.
This is a show belonged to us. With the help of tutor, the script is created by us and we edited it, and we practiced it, and we showed it. We are the actors and actress in the show and we show our various talents in this show. How can we say that the show is not belonged to us and we don’t enjoy it? And we express our real emotion in our show. According to the end of the show, I would like to say that thank you, Eton Hall, for caring for us for the past seven months and we appreciate it sincerely.
