Religion
Recently, one of my friends told me that she wanted to be a Christian. I was not so surprised when I heard what she said.
If you ask me whether I believe in religion, I want to use some dialogues in the movie to explain it. Religion is a gift, but I have not received it yet.
My friend told me that every time when she was in the church, she had a feeling of peace. She loved this feeling. Although I have not visited any church yet, I always regard churches as holy places.
Sometimes I will reflect on why people want to have a belief. Maybe they want a God(I am not sure whether there is) to listen to what they want to say in the deepest part of their hearts. And sometimes even I , who don’t believe in any God, want have someone who I can trust and who will never tell my secret to others in the world listen to my confess.
I still remember the day when Mrs. Lim asked me whether I had any belief in my life. I answered no. I didn’t really understand the meaning of ‘belief’. I always regard it as religion. Mrs. Lim widened her big eyes and was very surprised. She said:’ Ranbo, you cannot have no belief.’ So it came to my turn to feel surprised.
Do I really believe in anything? I don’t think so. Or I want to say that I don’t know. But anyone who has something to believe must be happy. Because they have a place to relieve their tired heart. Sometimes when you feel very unhappy, exhausted, disappointed, angry, you want to talk to someone. When you find you cannot even find a friend or a relative to listen to your words, the feeling is hard to explain because it is too painful.
I have attended a party on the Christmas Day. It was nice and moving. When everyone lighted a candle and sang beautiful songs, I have a feeling of safety and peace. Maybe it is the magic of the religion. Although I cannot have the gift of being a Christian, I can admire and enjoy it at least.

In fact, we all have our own beliefs but it is likely that we are not aware of them. Religion is one of choices of your beliefs. As Chinese fron mainland, most of us have no religious beliefs because of the education we have received. Whether traditional Chinese Culture, or mordern Chinese culture pay a little attention to religion. In the history of China, religious disputes rarely happened. Hence, there is no need that we worry because we do not have religious beliefs. It is sufficient to have beliefs in our hearts silently and permanently.

ReplyDeleteI want to share some of my feelings here. Belief is not a concept which is totally equivalent to religion. Just as Jinlong mentioned, religion is a part of belief. A person may not believe in any religion, but he cannot live without a belief. Recently,I have been with some local Singaporeans in the English Corner. They are Christians and they would like to share some experience with me. A guy who went to Thailand once told me that he saw personally that an old woman got healed after these guys prayed for her in Thailand. He was so sincere that I had not the heart to interrupt him. At first, I did not believe what he said just like I did not believe what is written on Bible that Jesus could bring a dead girl back to life. Some of my friends who went to the English Corner and listened to James (one of the guys) sharing his experience, and then received some books about Christ, may still think the words on the books are bullshit (excuse me) and speak against it fiercely. However, I have a different view on this issue now. We are from China and never received such education before, so we may not understand Christ yet. But it is fine, in China; we still have some similar things like either Fengshui or superstition. Some of the stories in our culture also talk about some people with super power like the Almighty in Christ, and many Chinese people believe in it. We can accept such things in China, so why we cannot accept things here. There is no need to debate and fight for so-called truth against the Christians. No need, indeed. No one knows what the truth is. I think that either having a belief in a religion or not is okay, because everybody has the freedom to choose his own way of life. What really make sense is just living a happy and meaningful life, and having a peace in heart meanwhile.

ReplyDeleteWhat you believe in is a very personal thing. You must never follow the crowd; you must feel comfortable in what you believe. I just hope that one day you`ll find the answer of what or who to believe in.
