Mourning and commemorating (May 12, 2009)

I feel that time is like a naughty boy and he always runs away when you pay little attention. When time floats non-stop in the river of our lives, we ought always to memory somebody or something that never can we forget.
Sometimes, we remember because we mourn. For example, today is May 12, 2009 and a year has passes since the horrible earthquake in WenChuan happened. It is one of the biggest disaster and about hundred thousands of people are pushing up the daisies. Though we cannot change or prevent that disaster, I think, we should commemorate our siblings who died a year ago. Besides, we ought to admire the brave and indomitable people in the ordeal. And we cannot forget the moving story during the suffering time.
Though the disaster makes people scared, the stories which happened during the time of rescue are impressive. So many people who are sublime emerge, and it is hard to list all of their names. However, I try to classify them in some groups, namely teachers, soldiers, doctors etc.
Teachers really regard their students as their own children, and they prefer to sacrifice themselves to rescuing students. When the earthquake occurred and most of teachers guided their students to go out of the school, however, some students are too scared to move. There was no time to run away, and most of teachers chose to guard the frightened students rather than escape alone. Therefore, we see the admiring sculpture after the catastrophe—some survivals under the hero teachers who were hit to death by the concrete and held the students tightly.
Soldiers are the sons of a nation, and when their motherland is in trouble, they make their all effort to fight for it. The cruel earthquake destroyed all of the passages to the stricken region, but our soldiers take all kinds measures, such as airborne troops, march on foot for more than several hours with the medical equipment that weigh ten kilograms. They overcome all kinds of difficulties to rescue the people who are waiting under the destroyed construction. One of segments I will never forget is that when a building is falling because of aftershock, a soldier knelt to ask for permission to save one more, but the soldier was refused by his captain who has his face covered with tears considering it was too dangerous. Can you imagine a man cried heavily just for saving a child who he didn’t know at risk his life? These are soldiers who are the pride of their country.
Doctors are called the angels in white and they deserve the honor, because they not only went all out to save the injured survival but also made great sacrifices. They gave up rescuing their beloved in order to save more people. There was a impressive scene which will never vague in my mind. A doctor had worked for more than ten hours and he was still calm and energetic to do his job. When he was asked about his relatives, he said that his child was still covered by the concrete. Though he had surgical mask on his face and we could not see his expression, I knew he must be sad because tears were full of his eyes. A few seconds later, he pointed a busy nurse and said her son was covered under that concrete as well. Our angels in white could hold their position even though their beloved were not safe in order to save more people. I believe, there were seldom greater persons than them.
The earthquake is horrible and it snatched many innocent lives. No matter whether they are young or not and no matter which job they occupied, they are all separated from the world. However, their lives were shining to the end and all of them made their best to fight against the evil from the hell. They are all heroes and they all deserve admiring. What I remember is not only the disaster and these moving stories, but also the spirit of bravery and unity. Moreover, I think, we should live happily and improve ourselves in the place of the ones who should have lived with us. Maybe it is what we can do for the dead. Wish they can get forever happiness and calmness in the Heaven to make up their suffering.
