My learning strategies in learning English

As the world becomes a global village, all of the people are trying to learn English to communicate with other villagers. For me, the purpose of learning English is not only to communicate with others, but also to have the ability to understand the lessons which are taught in English.

In my previous time, what I did in learning English was just listening to the teacher carefully in the class and doing exercises after class in order to get high marks in the examinations. So I didn’t have any strategies to improve my ability of learning English. But now, I’m in Singapore, a new condition for me to adapt to, and I know how important it is to learn English well. So I’m forming some strategies little by little.

For English learning, there are for parts: reading, writing, listening and speaking. In the reading part, I read some short articles every day. In reading, I don’t need to know the meaning of every word, just to get the main idea. After getting the main idea, I look the new words up in the dictionary. And I think, I can improve my reading comprehension little by little. In the end, I can read some long books about academy. In writing part, I try my best to learn writing skills and use the new words into the passage which I write. And I think, the best way to build up my vocabulary is to put them into practice. In the listening part, I listen to the tutors carefully in the class, and try to understand every word he/she says. After class, I may talk to my friends in English sometimes in order to improve my listening as well as speaking. In the speaking part, besides talking to my friends in English, I listen to some dialogues, passages and articles to speak by following the speakers.

Learning English is easy, but leaning English well is quite hard. Maybe my strategies are not so good, but now I’m trying to find the best way for me to learn English well. And I think if I have the proper strategies as well as active attitude, I may succeed.
