My learning strategies in learning English

There are so many strategies I use to learn English, such as reading aloud,writing my diary in English, imitating the intonation and pronunciation of the redio. Among them ,the most enjoyable and practical strategy is watching movies which have Chinese caption and English caption.

How does it work? Well, usually I often watch a movie at least 2 times ,not only for its intresting content but also for accumulating some useful expressions and phrases. At the first time, I just watch the images and listen without looking at the caption. This helps me improve my listening skills. when it comes to the second time, I watch the movie with caption. Becasuse I am not capable encough to catch every word in the movie, so looking at the caption can assist me to know further about the movie. Besides that, I write down some useful expressions and phrases that appear in the movie. You know, the accumulation is very essential for my communication in daily life. From the movie , I can find some idiomatic ways to express what I mean.

Different people have different strategies to learn English. That means my strategies may not be applied to everyone.But I hope what I share in the post can give you a guidline.

    Thanks for sharing, Susie.

    I must say I am very impressed with your method, because I know it takes a lot of discipline, effort and time. Take myself for example, I don't think I have the patience to watch a movie TWICE, unless it really is a very interesting movie. Even then, I still can't quite imagine watching it twice =)

    So WOW, with your determination, I am sure you will master the language in no time!

    Thanks for your comments, Ms Lim. Acutally, it takes me a lot of time to watch a movie twice.But for me, I find it more effective for me to get the knowledge and remember things from vedio.

    I agree with Ms Lim you really have the determination. If that is an effective way to learn the language,then by all means continue to practise it. However you also need to train yourself to read English text( be it books,magazines,or newspapers)to familiarise yourself with the language:)
