Last night, we went to the Victoria Concert Hall, to listen to Romantics Rekindled performanced by Braddell Heights Symphony Ochestra. Compared with the concert we had been to on 15th Feb, this one seemed to be more formal. Unlike hamonicas in the last concert, the main instruments in this concert were violins. I had never been to concert like this in China, so, to be honest, I could almost understand nothing about the content of what they were playing. Only through the booklet I got from the reception desk could I know something about the performance. Nevertheless, I kept my eyes widely open with my great effort all the way and I found it interesting gradually.
The performance was quite nice. The first section was Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D major, Beethoven. The chief violin was Varbanov. I had never heard him, however, his first show I saw impressed me so much that I might never forget. After this section was finished, the applause from audience lasted so long that he had to came back from the backstage to thank the audience for three or four times.
The following section was Symphony No.3 in F major, Johannes Brahms. There was no solo violin in this section. And the result was a long applause as well. The last section was a dance called Polovtsian Dances. It was also very nice.
The performance ended with a deafening applause.Although I could not understand this excellent concert very well, I still thought that I should attend this kind of concert as much as possible. Instead of wasting time on playing meaningless games or being in a trance in hostel, going to a concert like this may be much more meaningful. As a matter of fact, it is good for the person like me, who was not educated much in art before, to attend concert to improve his ability to appreciate art.

Just to give you some information--an orchestra consists of these sections: strings, woodwind, brass and percussion. Each section consists of many players. A concerto is a piece played by a soloist and orchestra.
ReplyDeleteYes,this would be very formal.
What you heard on Sunday, 15Feb. were only harmonicas which are not part of an orchestra. But the harmonicas could still be divided into various sections.
I`m glad that you now enjoy going to concerts. Don`t miss such opportunities as they are very enriching experiences.
Your introduction interests me very much. It is said that the music is the most melodious sound in the world, and it is a kind of language used most widely. I assume it because the influence of the concert on you. It's quite interesting and exciting to appreciate a concert referring your description, and it recalls the memory of Feb 15,2009 as well.
