Seeing these two words, you may get confused. Where on earth this Pulau Ubin is? What in the world is it look like? To answer these questions, we must first pay a little attention to these Malay words. In Malay, Pulau actually means an island while Ubin is granite. Situated in the northeastern coast of Singapore, this offshore island is being developed into a nature park, which attracts myriads of visitors every day.
Stepping on this far-away island, the first thing I saw is a rustic village. It is a reflection of days gone by, when life was simpler. Besides, the natural scenery is incredibly breathtaking. Pulau Ubin’s rich and preserved wildlife, abandoned quarries and plantations, and untouched nature make it the last witness of the old village in Singapore that existed before modern industrial times and large scale urban development.
As a matter of fact, Pulau Ubin is also a perfect place for people who love cycling. The paths for bicycles are everywhere in this island, the best ones are those mountainbike tracks around the Ubin Quarry. As some of them are rather dangerous, you’d better not try it if you are just a green hand.
Apart from what I have wrote, you can also try camping or just leisure walking. Because much of the natural environment is being preserved on Pulau Ubin, you are able to experience the rural community atmosphere encompassing granite quarries, coconut and rubber plantations, mangrove swamps, fish and prawn farms. It is really a good place to let your hair down after a whole week’s busy city life.
We are really suffering a lot pressure today. Sometimes we also need relaxing ourselves. I think that Pulau Ubin is really an ideal place to go and I believe that you really enjoyed yourself there. Maybe during the recess week I will consider going there and experience the simple life.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like Pulau Ubin as much as I do!
