Dear Students from Group 5
I read from some of your blogs and understand that you all have to decide on the subject/s to major in, within the next 3 days.
Here, I would like to share with you what I perceive the real meaning of the word 'Sacrifice' to be... It is not only the giving up of something which matters to you BUT you are exchanging it for something else which you consider to be better or to be more valuable than what you are giving up.
I hope this sharing will now enable you to see this word 'Sacrifice' in a more positive light.
In selecting your major/s, ideally, you should choose a field that you are interested in as you are going to be 'stuck' in this field for the next 10 years at least before you can assume a reasonably high position (job wise) in this field.
It can be quite a torturing experience to compel yourself to study something you have no interest in and later to work in that same field.
If you select otherwise, that is , you select major/s that you have no interest in but you think will bring you 'big bucks' later on in life, then, you have to hope that you will develop a liking for these subjects in due course.
The choice is yours. Good Luck.
PS 1 -- I am available for discussion any time.
PS 2 -- In reply to Diamond's blog entry, my son is almost 6 years old now. He is my pride and joy. It is also a joy for me to teach English to the students from Group 5; partly to pay for milk powder for my son. All in all, it is a 'double joy/happiness' for me.
